4 Steps to Finding More Balance in Your Life

Updated: Feb 25, 2022

Balance in life is a topic that resonates with most people at some point, and for good reason – it’s not easy to find! However, with the right mindset and attitude, you can certainly find more balance in your life. If you start with these four steps, you’ll be on your way to living a more balanced life with far less stress and more peace of mind every day!

Step 1: Start Small

It’s easy to get overwhelmed when trying to balance multiple aspects of life. Starting small can help you feel like you’re accomplishing something while setting up success for your larger goals. Start with one step, like carving out time for exercise or calling a family member you haven’t spoken with in a while. Make it doable and give yourself credit for starting; don’t focus on the quantity or how far away your ultimate goal is.

Step 2: Identify What's Important

Taking a step back from your busy life and evaluating what is truly important to you is an essential part of any attempt at finding balance. If you’re taking care of everyone but yourself, it’s time to take a look at your priorities and give them a little reorganization. Ask yourself, What is important to me? Write down a list of things that are most important. These can be big or small: spending time with friends and family, playing sports, exercising, volunteering, traveling—whatever matters most to you. Be realistic about what you can accomplish given your current lifestyle and schedule.

Step 3: Practice Mindfulness

To find balance in your life, it's important to be attuned and aware of what’s going on. This is something we all know, but when we get busy and start rushing around, it becomes easy to let our attention wander. Mindfulness is about living your life, enjoying each moment, being aware of what you’re doing, thinking and feeling. One way to practice mindfulness is through meditation. Meditation helps you take control of your thoughts and feelings instead of letting them control you. It can help you become more mindful throughout your day—in fact, research has shown that practicing mindfulness for only five minutes a day can improve your wellbeing over time.

Step 4: Treat Yo Self :)

This one is my favorite, not only because it was a great episode from Parks and Recreation but because it's also very important. Showing yourself the love that you give to others goes a long way in creating balance in your life. Indulge in a massage, favorite wine or dessert. Book that trip or go to a movie. It doesn’t need to be costly and will make a huge impact in your life.
